GoPro is an American tech company which is widely known for their remote and voice control cameras. It is originally a Live Action Sports company, thus GoPro’s cameras are designed for outdoor use. On the other hand, Google Clips is an indoor camera, designed for parents and pet owners which is able to take clips on its own. Dramatically GoPro’s share fallen to 6.31% when Google announced their first smart camera –Google Clips. After that event, many people are wondering, if Google Clips’ appearance will harm the GoPro’s current market. So, here is the technical and user perspective demonstration to describe Google Clips Camera VS. GoPro Camera:
GoPro has several cameras with different price tags. To compare GoPro cameras with Google Clips, let’s take GoPro Hero5 Black which costs $299 USD as an example. Though it’s more than what you need to pay for Google Clips, it’s the nearest one to compare with Google Clips. As stated already, GoPro cameras are designed for live action, and Hero5 is not different. GoPro prioritizes the protection and makes professional cameras for outdoor use.
GoPro Hero5 is a waterproof camera, which can last up to 30ft underwater depth. In spite of being like GoPro Hero5, Google Clips is totally different and there is no water or dustproof protection. Clips Camera is a wearable camera which can be clipped anywhere in your house rather than a soccer field.
Both GoPro Hero5 and Google Clips cameras come with Direct Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interface. So, when it comes to connectivity, both of the cameras are on the same line which is secure than cloud-based cameras to some security specialist.
Google Clips is a Google’s new innovative piece of technology which uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to get familiar with its use. The more you use, the more it can learn about you, your friends and family, and pets to determine who is important to you. Then, the rest is an automatic process, Clips will capture the greatest moments of your loved ones. GoPro Hero5 doesn’t support such technology as Google Clips but uses Digital Image Rotation to record wide dynamic photos and videos, and it can be controlled by voice or remotely via mobile applications. Google Clips has no microphone, so it captures small video clips with no audio, which is the modern version of images. GoPro Hero5 can capture photos and record videos simultaneously.
GoPro has HDMI output which can be used to connect to any digital output devices like TV or Monitor to see the captured moments. Google Clips has USB-C to transfer data to phone or computer.
When it comes to camera specification, Google Clips is able to capture clips with the 15fps rate. And. GoPro Hero5’s maximum video resolution is 3840×2160 which is way more professional than Google Clips.
Unlike cloud-based AI devices, Google is developing and testing offline based artificial intelligence with the Google Clips, which can be used in various other devices. They made it as a smart camera but not a professional camera as GoPro. Google Clips is Google’s first smart camera and the specification and features might improve in near future to have a real fight with GoPro.
